StormTracker8: Warm afternoons to kick off Fall

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Happy First Day of Fall 2025 everyone. The Autumnal Equinox officially kicks off at 2:19 p.m. this afternoon. We are in for active weather this week, starting on Wednesday, more on that below.
Today’s forecast on Monday calls for partly sunny skies, warm afternoon temperatures, rising into the lower 80s and muggy conditions persisting, as we will be dealing with southwesterly flow across the Mid-Atlantic region this entire week.
Tonight’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies overnight and low temperatures dipping down to around 65 degrees, a tad muggy.
Tuesday’s forecast brings us partly sunny skies, toasty afternoon temperatures, rising to around 85 degrees and a possible shower late in the day.
Wednesday’s forecast brings us partly sunny skies, toasty afternoon temperatures, rising into the middle 80s and isolated showers and thunderstorms, during the afternoon and evening hours.
Thursday and Friday this week both bring us mostly cloudy skies, toasty temperatures on Thursday, rising into the middle 80s, while Friday it’ll be in the middle 70s, with scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms, during the afternoon and evening hours.
Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, for the final weekend of September 2025, we will see warm afternoon temperatures, rising into the lower 80s and isolated showers and thunderstorms, during the afternoon and evening hours both days.
Any thunderstorm that develops from Wednesday through Sunday will have the potential of producing locally heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning, so keep that in mind when you are making your outdoor plans this week in the afternoon and evening hours.
Finally, next Monday, preliminarily right now, is looking completely dry, under mostly cloudy skies and highs in the middle 70s.
TRACKING THE TROPICS – Hurricane Gabrielle is approaching the Island of Bermuda on this Monday morning, to its east and will continue to strengthen rapidly in the short term, as it races off to the north and east this work week, well away from the United States East Coast.
