Students from Louisa County featured on ABC World News Tonight for fixing, donating cars

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- High schoolers in Louisa County who have been fixing cars and then donating them to single mothers were featured on ABC World News Tonight.

On Monday, Jan. 12, students from Louisa County High School were featured on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir as the Tonight's America Strong story.

For the past eight years, these students have repaired and refurbished cars to give to single mothers in need within the community. The students work on about five cars a year.

“It’s a great learning experience,” said Shane Robertson, automotive teacher at the school who leads the program and teaches his students. “It’s gratifying.”

They have partnered with Giving Words to assist with the giveaway program. It is a nonprofit that supports single mothers with car repairs and donations.

The cars for the program are donated by people and automotive businesses. After the cars are completed, they are sent to a car shop for a safety inspection before they can be donated.
