Studio Two Three to host first-ever Sad Prom raising funds for HVAC system

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond nonprofit community arts space Studio Two Three will host its first-ever Sad Prom on Saturday to raise money to replace its HVAC systems and make other improvements.

According to the nonprofit, the prom will be hosted from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, featuring 80s jams spun by DJ Infinite Repeats.

The event is described as being a nostalgic, new wave, 80s-themed "dream prom," with glittery drinks, tinsel, synths, stars and a polaroid photo booth. The dress code is anything glittery, shiny or over the top.

"We highly encourage arriving in a limo, corsages, asking parents for permission and breaking curfews," the studio said.

Studio Two Three said this fundraiser comes after the federal government rescinded a grantmaking program that was in the process of approving a grant that would've given the space $200,000 to replace the building's HVAC systems and thermostats and seal the building.

Without the grant, the nonprofit said it needs to raise $60,000 as soon as possible to replace its dying HVAC.

Tickets can be purchased on a sliding scale from $25 to $150. To grab your tickets and find more information, visit Studio Two Three's website.

The studio is located at 109 West 15th Street in the city's Southside.
