Submissions open for Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources photo showcase
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Nature photographers have been called to action by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) to enter the 2025 Virginia Wildlife Photography Showcase. According to the department, this annual showcase offers photographers of all experience levels the chance for their photos to be featured in the July/August 2025 issue of the Virginia Wildlife Magazine. The cover of the 2026 Virginia Wildlife Calendar will also be chosen from photos submitted to the showcase. The department said they are seeking a fauna-based image for the cover, but there are several other categories for participants to enter. The full list of categories, as described by the department, includes: Virginia Fauna: Native mammals, birds (game and nongame), insects, reptiles and amphibians, underwater images of fish and aquatic life. Textures & Patterns: Abstract designs, textures and patterns found in nature. Trail-Cam Images: Images captured on trail cameras that reveal something interesting or funny about the subject. Explore the Wild: Images captured on public lands found through the DWR Explore the Wild online tool -- DWR Wildlife Management Areas, Virginia Bird and Wildlife Trail sites, and state and local parks. Entries for this category can include photos of wildlife, native plants and textures and patterns, but they must also specify in the description which public land the image was taken at. Any photographer can enter the showcase, and they are allowed to submit up to three photos for each category. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025.
