Suspect arrested months after 17-year-old killed in Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been charged with a 17-year-old boy's murder in connection to a Nov. 2024 deadly shooting in Richmond's Southside. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 23-year-old Jacquawn Coe of Richmond was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony following an indictment obtained by a grand jury. The shooting incident was first reported at 4:22 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2024, when police were called to the 2800 block of Broad Rock Boulevard. Upon their arrival, officers found an unidentified 17-year-old boy down and unresponsive on the curb of the road. According to police, he had been shot. He died at the scene. During an investigation, detectives learned the victim had been dropped off at the location by an unknown person or persons in a vehicle that left the area before police arrived. As police were responding to the scene, they also received a call for sounds of gunfire in the 5000 block of Snead Road. Detectives determined that this was the location of the shooting.
