Suspicious package causes Main Street Centre evacuation

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Main Street Centre was evacuated on Wednesday after Capitol Police were alerted to a suspicious package in the building.

A notification from Virginia State Capitol Alert Network (VSCAN) was sent out at 11:03 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 about a suspicious situation at Main Street Centre, located at 600 E. Main Street.

While on scene, 8News received information from Capitol Police that they got a call around 10:20 a.m. about a suspicious package at the location.

Authorities evacuated everyone out of the building and there were no injuries. As of the time of reporting, officials said they expect to bring people inside shortly.

East Franklin Street between 5th Street and 6th Street were closed as a result of the incident, per officials. 8News has not been given an estimated time that roads will reopen.
