Sussex Sheriff’s Office continues search for leads a year after deadly home invasion
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Sussex County Sheriff's Office is still searching for answers a year after a home invasion left a wife dead and her husband injured, with authorities now releasing photos of two persons of interest. Just before midnight on Oct. 24, 2023, the sheriff's office was called to a home on East Church Street in the town of Wakefield for report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Judy and Dan Baldwin -- a couple in their mid-70s -- who had both been shot inside of their home by intruders. At the time of the shooting, the sheriff's office told 8News that this appeared to be a random robbery. However, despite jewelry found in the garage -- which was found open by deputies when they arrived at the home -- nothing appeared to have been stolen. Suspect information was also provided at the time of the shooting. Authorities described the suspects as two men between 25 and 30 years of age. On Wednesday, Oct. 23 -- one day shy of a year since this shooting took place -- the sheriff's office posted photos of persons of interest in this case, shown below. They were reportedly caught on camera in the parking lot of a Wakefield business. According to the sheriff's office, the two subjects can be seen on the footage crossing through the parking lot and heading toward East Church Street at about 11:39 p.m., then returning and heading in the opposite direction about ten minutes later.
