SwimRVA to host 2024 East Coast WinterFest swim meet

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- SwimRVA announced recently that they will be hosting the annual East Coast WinterFest swim meet this December. The meet will take place at the Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Chesterfield from Dec. 12-15. According to SwimRVA, the meet is one of the largest competitions of the year, welcoming 900 athletes to the Richmond area. The athletes will be traveling from several parts of the east coast, including Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey to participate in the winter-wonderland-themed championship opportunity. According to SwimRVA, they generate $7 million in sports tourism annually through their events, having hosted the TYR Pro Swim Series, Toyota U.S. Open and USA Swimming championships. They credit the regional success to their partnerships with Richmond Region Tourism, Chesterfield County and the local business community. Additionally, all of the athletes participating in the meet will receive free admission to the Kings Dominion WinterFest experience. SwimRVA's indoor aquatic center is a 54,000 square foot space, containing a 50-meter steel pool that was originally constructed for the 2008 Olympic trials but rebuilt as the centerpiece for the complex. SwimRVA is a nonprofit that works to provide aquatic programs of quality to the Richmond region. For those unable to attend the event in person, SwimRVA will be offering a streaming system that will showcase the swimmers. People will also be able to rewatch a race multiple times.
