The Smoothie Spot calls Richmond area its new home

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A new smoothie spot is set to blend its Baltimore roots with the Richmond area this late February at 9782 Gayton Road in Henrico County's West End

The Smoothie Spot originated in Baltimore Maryland, by friends BJ Grondin, Jeremy, and Maygan Callahan, and according to Senior Director of Operations Maygan Callahan what what started out as "a friend doing anything for another friend," has turned into growing business.

According to Callahan, what separates The Smoothie Spot from other places is its use of "all real fruit and food ingredients,” together with “the lack of any artificial sweetener agents, ice or water.”

The menu will feature classic smoothies like the following: Mixed Berry, Peanut Butter Banana, Tropical and Mighty Green, with the latter made from sweet pineapple, green apple, kale, spinach, and avocado. A selection of sandwiches and toasts will also be made available.

Smoothie bowl selections will include:

  • Acai
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Tropical

“It was extremely important to offer healthy food options to the local community and prove that smoothies can taste amazing by using all-natural ingredients,” Callahan said.

Owner and friend BJ Grondin owns and operates a fitness center called Prime360.

"Given his passion for health and fitness, he thought the next evolution of this concept was to add a healthy eating element," Callahan said.

“We love the backstory of the ownership group and especially their focus on the use of all-natural ingredients throughout the menu," said Kristina O’Keefe, Vice President of CRC’s Commercial Division.
