Others ran 13.1 miles to complete the half-marathon. Brian Flynn, of the town of Ashland in Hanover County, was the first to finish, taking an hour, 10 minutes and 20 seconds -- which is a little over five and a half minutes per mile.
“I wanted to run this one because it’s local obviously and it’s- it’s really hilly and I’m running Boston in about six weeks," he said.

Flynn has run nearly 50 half marathons. His nearly one-year-old, three-year-old and wife were there when he crossed the finish line, and he said it was the crowd along the way that kept him going.
“A lot of crowds out there, a lot of families, a lot of kids to high five which is always fun," he said.
