Three Louisa schools close early due to water main break, boil water advisory expected for part of county

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three Louisa County Public Schools have dismissed students early on Wednesday due to a water main break in part of the county's water line.

According to an announcement by Louisa County Public Schools at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, school leaders were told of a break in part of the county's water line.

According to a notice from Louisa County, the break is located on Jefferson Highway.

The notice further said that the Louisa County Water Authority is working with the Virginia Department of Health to issue a Boil Water Advisory for part of the county.

The boil water advisory would reportedly be issued for Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek customers -- those along Davis Highway, Jefferson Highway and the Towns of Louisa and Mineral.

Those in Zion Crossroads, Spring Creek or New Bridge (Lake Anna) areas were reportedly not affected.

A Louisa County Public Schools spokesperson said county crews were out at the scene to assess the damage. The issue began to impact water pressure at the Louisa County Middle School and Louisa County High School campuses, as well as Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

Louisa County Middle School and Louisa County High School was dismissed at 9:15 a.m., and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School was dismissed at 9:30 a.m.

All other schools will remain on their regular schedule, according to the school system.

Parents and guardians with specific or updated transportation needs were asked to reach out to their child's school.

The school division said that an abbreviated graduation practice will be held in the morning for Louisa County High School seniors with the same start time.

"If any additional school-specific details or information arise, your principal will communicate directly with you," the announcement said.
