Three-vehicle crash on I-95 North causes delays in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 North is causing delays for drivers in Richmond on Sunday morning.

The crash was first reported at 7:20 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). It is located at I-95 North at mile marker 72.4, a mile away from the Maury Street exit.

A Virginia State Police spokesperson said the crash took place at around 6 a.m.

According to VDOT, the right and center lanes are both closed as of the time of reporting.

A preliminary investigation reveals that a sedan was traveling the wrong way on I-95 when it hit an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder. Police say that the abandoned vehicle was then pushed into the lane, and a tractor-trailer hit it.

The driver of the vehicle that was going the wrong way then ran away on foot, according to state police. Authorities believe drugs may be a factor in this crash.
