Three Virginia students to represent US in International Aviation Art Contest

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three Virginia students will represent the U.S. in the International Aviation Art Competition in Switzerland.

The following students were selected from among 140 participants from across the U.S.:

  • First place in the junior category (7 to 10 years old): Andrew Yang of the Great Falls area of Fairfax County
  • Second place in the intermediate category (11 to 14 years old): Aspen Xing of the town of Vienna in Fairfax County
  • Second place in the senior category (15 to 18 years old): Lalitha Kuchipudi of the Chantilly area of Fairfax County

This year's theme was "women with wings." The competition began statewide and was sponsored by the Virginia Department of Aviation, after which winners' works were judged alongside others from around the nation.

National winners will then go on to compete at an international level.

Among last year's winners were Virginians Eric Shen and Iris Xie.
