Tractor-trailer fire on I-95 in Sussex County caused all southbound lanes to be closed

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A tractor-trailer went up in flames on Interstate 95 southbound in Sussex County on Friday morning, resulting in all lanes being closed.

The crash happened just before 5:15 a.m. on Friday, May 30, near Stony Creek at mile marker 29. A trooper with the Virginia State Police said they saw a 2002 International tractor-trailer with an additional trailer attached pulling off to the shoulder.

Minutes later, the trooper said the truck was "fully engulfed with fire."

State police said the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Fire crews have extinguished the fire, cleared the rods and reopened all lanes of traffic.

All southbound lanes were closed until around 10:30 a.m., and traffic was being diverted at Exit 31.

The truck is reportedly owned by UPS, United Parcel Service, and was delivering packages.

Drivers were encouraged to seek alternative routes.
