Trails, parking along James River to close due to flooding

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities department recently announced that multiple locations along the James River will be closed due to projected flooding over the next few days.

According to a Facebook post from the department, the recent rain is predicted to cause flooding and has caused the following locations to close on Monday, Feb. 17 and Tuesday, Feb. 18:

  • Pony Pastures Parking Area
  • Huguenot Flatwater Parking Area
  • Belle Isle Service Road (public trail) next to Hollywood Rapids

They also provided a reminder to would-be hikers to avoid utilizing trails during rain and for a minimum of 24 hours after rain, to stay safe.
