Turn around, don’t drown: Car stuck in floodwaters on Chesterfield roadway
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A car got stuck in deep floodwaters on a Chesterfield County road during Wednesday's severe storm. The incident prompted fire officials to stress how important it is to use caution when you see a flooded roadway.
On Wednesday, March 5, a strong storm system hit much of Virginia. The heavy downpours caused flash flooding throughout the region, including in Chesterfield, where multiple roadways flooded.
According to fire officials, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS responded to one such flooded roadway, Ware Bottom Spring Road.
They found a car stuck in the floodwaters, pictured below. The water appears to be rather deep, nearly reaching the lip of the car's trunk.

According to fire officials, those in the car were able to get out before firefighters arrived.
If you ever approach a flooded roadway, remember these words: "Turn around, don't drown." The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that it is easy to underestimate how deep floodwaters may appear and that it is always best practice to avoid driving through them.
"Please use caution if you are out on the roads this evening," fire officials said.
