Two bicyclists discover human remains in High Bridge Trail in Prince Edward County

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two bicyclists discovered human remains in the High Bridge Trail, leading to a section of the trail in Prince Edward County being closed.

According to the sheriff's office, Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Law Enforcement Rangers are investigating what they are calling a "suspicious death" on High Bridge Trail in the Prospect area of Prince Edward County on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Virginia State Police told 8News that two bicyclists reported finding the remains of a dead white woman in the Prospect area of the State Park at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials said they do not believe there is any threat to the public as of the time of reporting.

As a result, the county said the section of High Bridge Trail State Park between the east and west Prospect Road trail crossings will remain closed until further notice.
