Two civilians, one police officer hurt after fire breaks out in Chesterfield hotel’s HVAC unit
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three people, including a police officer, are hurt after a fire broke out inside a Chesterfield County hotel late Friday night.
Just before 9:30 p.m. on, Nov. 7, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Koger Center Boulevard for report of a fire alarm. The call was quickly upgraded to a structure fire after officials received information that there was an active fire inside the building.
When they arrived, firefighters found smoke and fire in a fourth-floor room.
Several crews were called to the scene of this second-alarm fire, tasked with both putting the fire out and evacuating those within the hotel.

The fire was marked under control in about an hour.
Three people were hurt as a result of the fire. Two were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The third victim, a police officer, experienced smoke inhalation, but fire officials said they declined to go to a hospital for treatment.

Crews worked to clear all hotel rooms and ventilate the smoke from the building before allowing any guests back inside. Parts of the building experienced water damage, but fire officials did not say exactly how many rooms.
The fire is believed to have started in an HVAC unit.
No additional information is available as of the time of reporting.
