Two displaced after space heater causes Chesterfield house fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two people are displaced after officials said a space heater caused a fire at their home in Chesterfield County Monday morning.

Just before 5 a.m. on Monday, April 28, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews responded to a call for a house fire in the 12900 block of Percival Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found a fire in the living room of the home. The fire was marked under control within 40 minutes.

There were no injuries. Two residents are displaced, according to officials.

"One-third of all home heating fires in the U.S. are caused by space heaters," said a Chesterfield County Fire and EMS spokesperson. "And one-quarter of those occur when the heater is placed too close to something combustible, like fabric."
