Two Hanover community programs recognized for excellence, innovation

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two of Hanover County's community programs were recognized by the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) for their excellence and innovation.

On Monday, Aug. 18, Hanover officials announced that its Engage Hanover and Celebrating a Century programs had both received Achievement Awards from VACo. Per the county, VACo gives such awards to counties whose programs "demonstrate excellence and innovation in local government services."

Engage Hanover is an online platform that allows residents to keep up-to-date on county projects, as well as provide input on things that matter to them.

"It offers interactive tools such as surveys, timelines and maps to help residents engage with local government on their own time," county officials said in Monday's press release. "The platform supports transparency and improves two-way communication between the county and its residents."

The second winning program, Celebrating a Century, honors Hanover residents who are 100 years old or older, allowing those residents to share their stories with the greater community. Thirteen such Hanover centenarians were celebrated in May.

“Both of these programs are about connecting with people, whether it’s making local government more accessible or recognizing the lives and stories that have shaped our community,” said county administrator John Budesky in the release. “They represent our continued commitment to serve with purpose and heart.”
