Two men arrested, charged with murder following Richmond homicide

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in relation to a homicide that took place in February.

According to the Richmond Police Department, officers were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue at 11:54 p.m. on February 25, for the report of a person shot. Upon arrival, 39-year-old Clayton Wyatt was found with a gunshot wound.

Wyatt was then taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, officials said.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, detectives with Richmond Police arrested 35-year-old R'Keem Thomas and 34-year-old Rodney Staples. They have both been charged with murder and use of a firearm in connection to the homicide.

Officials said that Thomas turned himself in on March 5, while Staples was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Houston, Texas on June 2.
