Two men seriously hurt in crash involving golf cart in New Kent

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two men were seriously hurt in a crash involving a golf cart in New Kent County on Thursday.

Just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, state troopers with Virginia State Police were called to the 7100 block of Pinehurst Drive in the Five Lakes subdivision for report of a crash involving a golf cart.

State police learned that a 39-year-old Powhatan County man was driving a golf cart on a designated trail when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic in the roadway.

A 29-year-old Prince George County woman driving a 2004 GMC pickup truck was unable to avoid the cart, state police said.

The Powhatan man and his passenger, a 69-year-old Chesterfield County man, were both seriously injured in the crash. They were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

As of about 5:30 p.m, Pinehurst Drive is closed as this crash is investigated, per the New Kent Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said residents of the neighborhood who are affected by the road closure and need access to their homes can go to the golf course parking lot, where there will be people on site to help with detouring through an access road.
