Two men targeting elderly residents in Charles City County with meat scam

CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Charles City County Sheriff's Office put out a community alert Wednesday evening, warning residents about two men going door-to-door selling meat.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office alerted residents in the community about two men who were going door-to-door pressuring people to buy meat from them.

The two suspects have reportedly been talking their way into people's homes, pressuring them to buy meat -- while asking for payment by check. The sheriff's office said that after receiving the payments, the suspects left way less meat than what was paid for.

Charles City County deputies said that they seem to be targeting elderly residents in the community. The sheriff's office also reminds residents to never pay someone that they don't know personally by check.

The suspects are described to be one white male and one Black male -- shown in a photo shared by the sheriff's office. They are said to be driving a white Dodge pickup truck.

If anyone encounters the suspects, they are encouraged to not let them in their home and contact the Charles City County Sheriff's Office immediately at 804-829-9265.
