Two separate water main breaks repaired in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two separate water main breaks in Richmond were repaired on Friday.

According to a spokesperson with the city's Department of Public Works (DPU), on Friday, September 12, two separate water main breaks were reported on Cary Street and Monument Avenue.

The spokesperson said that the Cary Street main break happened overnight.

Both water main breaks had water interruptions and have been repaired, with services restored, the DPU spokesperson said.

This news comes a day after some Richmond residents reported noticing a “sulfur-like odor” in their tap water on Thursday, Sept. 11.

As of around 5 p.m. on Thursday, DPU said the city’s tap water remained safe to use.

8News has reached out to DPU to see if there was any connection between the reported "sulfur-like odor" and the two separate water main breaks.
