Two suspects in Shockoe Bottom shooting make first court appearance

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two of the three Henrico men involved in the deadly shooting in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom appeared in court for the first time on Monday.

On Monday, March 9, 25-year-old Drevon Jackson-Brown and 22-year-old Sha’quan Morris appeared for an arraignment hearing at Richmond City’s Circuit Court.

Both men, along with 27-year-old Carlos Johnson Jr., were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood shooting on Feb. 21 that killed two people and injured seven others.

Court documents said an argument broke out among a group of people in Shockoe Bottom around 2:45 a.m., with video showing Jackson-Brown and Johnson starting to shoot at the crowd in the same direction, despite not being able to see gunshots fired at them.

The documents also stated that Morris fired shots of his own, despite not being associated with any group involved.

The mass shooting resulted in the deaths of 23-year-old Genesis Jones and 42-year-old Dominic Antoine Jackson, the brother of suspect Jackson-Brown.

Jackson-Brown was the last to be taken into custody, with Richmond police saying he turned himself in just minutes before Saturday's press conference.

Carlos Johnson will be in court on April 6th.
