Two-time Olympic swimmer signing with UVA
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A high school swimmer who is the top-rated recruit in her class and has already been to the Olympic Games twice is signing with the University of Virginia (UVA). Nevada native Katie Grimes was the youngest member of the 2020 USA Olympic Team at 15 years old, placing fourth in the 500-meter freestyle. In 2024, she won won the 400-meter individual medley at the U.S. Olympic trials and won the silver medal in the same race at the Paris Olympics. Grimes was also the first American woman to compete in both pool and open water swimming events at the same Olympic games, swimming in the 10-kilometer in the Siene River in Paris. In addition to her performances in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, Grimes is a three-time national champion in the 10-kilometer open water race, a three-time silver medalist in the World Long Course Championships and a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships.
