UVA starting wide receiver accused of abduction, rape in Albemarle

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 22-year-old Charlottesville man and starting wide receiver during the University of Virginia's (UVA) 2025-26 football season has been accused of abduction and rape in Albemarle County.

On Aug. 25, 2025, a person came to the Albemarle County Police Department to report that they had been sexually assaulted the day prior.

Following an over 5-month investigation, an Albemarle grand jury indicted 22-year-old Jahmal Edrine of Charlottesville on two charges, rape and abduction, in connection with this case. He was arrested three days later on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Edrine was a starting wide receiver for UVA during its 2025-26 football season -- which began just days after this alleged crime took place. According to UVA Athletics, he caught 46 receptions for 564 yards and one touchdown.

At this time, Edrine is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
