VCU announces new tool to fight advanced cancer will come to South Hill

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A new tool needed to fight cancer and provide advanced cancer care is coming to South Hill, according to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital can help celebrate the milestone with cancer patients and their care providers, as per a Thursday release from the university.

The ribbon-cutting, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at the Solari Radiation Therapy Center, will introduce the HyperSight TrueBeam radiation therapy machine.

"The HyperSight technology allows for bigger, faster, and better imaging of the tumor environment, thereby allowing doctors to better administer treatment to tumor cells while avoiding surrounding healthy tissue," the release from VCU reads.

By implementing this new tool, the cancer center said that this could "reduce the state cancer burden for all Virginians by making cutting-edge care more accessible for all communities."

According to the university, the HyperSight TrueBeam machine offers treatment for a range of patient needs and they say is the "only such cancer-fighting machine in southern Virginia."
