VCU Police to hold administrative checkpoint in Downtown Richmond Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police will conduct an administrative checkpoint in downtown Richmond this weekend as part of a national effort to curb impaired driving.

The checkpoint will take place from 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, Aug. 23, in the 700 block of West Main Street near the Monroe Park Campus at VCU.

Officers from VCU Police, Virginia State Police and the Richmond Police Department will be on-site.

They will check driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations, remind motorists about safe nighttime driving practices and enforce violations — including driving under the influence.

The initiative is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs from Aug. 13 through Sept. 1 this year and focuses on preventing impaired driving during the Labor Day holiday period.
