VCU survives and advances to A10 Tournament Championship

Washington, D.C. (WRIC) -- VCU secured a 62-55 win over Loyola Chicago in the Atlantic 10 semifinals on Saturday, March 15 at Capital One Arena, sending the Rams to their third straight A-10 title game.

Max Shulga led VCU with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Phillip Russell added 10 points, while Jack Clark had seven points and eight rebounds. Luke Bamgboye contributed six points and four blocks. Loyola's Miles Rubin led his team with 12 points and eight rebounds.

VCU shot 43.1% from the field, while Loyola struggled at 29.4%. Loyola grabbed more offensive rebounds (22-9) and outscored VCU 17-4 in second-chance points.

Loyola fought back in the second half, taking a 51-50 lead with 5:10 left. But VCU closed the game with an 11-4 run to win.

This win sends VCU to its ninth A-10 Championship game since joining the conference in 2012.

Next up, VCU will face either George Mason or Saint Joseph's in the A-10 Championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.
