VCU to conduct test of alert system with sirens, texts and more
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) will conduct a full test of its emergency alert system on Wednesday, including outdoor sirens, text messages and more.
The test will take place at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 11, and will include activation of the following safety mechanisms:
- Outdoor sirens on the Monroe Park Campus, MCV Campus and at VCU Police headquarters (224 E. Broad St.)
- Alertus boxes located inside residence halls, classrooms and high-volume areas in academic buildings
- VCU Alert text messages before, during and after the test
This test of the VCU full alert system features a multichannel system to communicate emergency information to the university as well as the surrounding community.
A message will be sent to VCU Alert emergency text and email subscribers ten minutes before the test beings and there will be a second message sent to indicate the start of the test.
