Virginia State Police report 60 crashes during winter storm
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) has urged drivers to stay off the roads after sharing the number of accidents and injuries reported throughout Virginia.
On the afternoon of Jan. 24, a snowstorm struck Virginia, causing vehicle accidents to occur across the state. VSP announced that there have been 60 crashes, with six having injuries reported since 9:30 p.m.
VSP is urging drivers to stay roads from Saturday night into Monday morning. However, if you must drive, remember to allow room for VDOT trucks and emergency crews so that they can do their jobs.
Motorists should also remember that the winter storm could impact and delay emergency response times to stranded vehicles.
VSP has broken down the accidents by divisions:
- Division 1: Central Va./ Richmond had 11 crashes, with one injury
- Division 2: Northwest Va./ Winchester/ Harrisonburg had two crashes, with no injuries
- Division 3: Central/ Western Va./ Appomattox had five crashes, with two injuries
- Division 4: Southwest Va. had 16 crashes, with one injury
- Division 5: Hampton Roads had four crashes, one with injuries
- Division 6: Western Va./ Roanoke had 11 crashes, with one injury
- Division 7: Northern Va. had 11 crashes, with no injuries
