VisArts’ Craft + Design show will celebrate 60 years at Main Street Station
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- If you're trying to get a head start on your holiday shopping, you're in luck with the return of the 60th annual Craft + Design show hosted by the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. The contemporary craft show will be at Main Street Station in downtown Richmond from Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24. Shoppers can expect to find a variety of art mediums like ceramics, jewelry, blown glass, furniture and more from 160 artists from across the country. "We started this craft fair in 1964," said Jordan Brown, executive director of Visual Arts Center of Richmond. "A year into our operation, we had a little backyard show, and now it's grown into this 10,000-person weekend event that's nationally recognized. We're very, very proud of what the show brings to Richmond and what it brings to us." This year's featured artist is Hokanson Dix Glass, a two-person team based out of New York. "We use classic glass blowing techniques that have been developed for the last centuries, and some of our own new ideas," said Hokanson Dix Glass artist Bengt Hokanson. "Kind of like jazz - you take a little bit of everything around you and put it together." The show kicks off on Friday, Nov. 22 with a Patrons' Preview Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Shoppers can get another chance at early access during the Rise + Shine brunch on Saturday, Nov. 23. General admission tickets are available for Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24. VisArts members' tickets are free. More ticket information can be found on the event's official page.
