WATCH: Large fire burns through Richmond building, two firefighters hurt in extreme heat
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Businesses, residents and firefighters are all feeling the impacts of a large fire in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Crews with the Richmond Fire Department were called to a building near 1700 E. Main Street the afternoon of Wednesday, June 24 for report of a structure fire.
Heavy smoke could be seen pouring from the building, as shown in the video below.
The fire was marked under control by 1:22 p.m. -- but firefighters will likely remain in the area until midnight, checking for hot spots.
Officials at the scene told 8News that they couldn't name the building at this time. However, they did confirm that it houses multiple businesses on its first floor and multiple residences on its second floor.
The fire's damage impacted three businesses and displaced three residents.
While no civilians were hurt, two firefighters experienced heat exhaustion while battling the blaze.

Richmond Fire Chief Jay Segal said they are stable at this time -- but emphasized that this week's heat wave creates additional risks for first responders.
"Heat conditions like this -- it makes it hard [to do] anything, right? So just imagine [how it is for] the firefighters," Segal said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No additional information is available as of the time of reporting.
