RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) --  In Part 3 of this Weather University special series on severe weather, 8News meteorologists Matt DiNardo and Jacqueline Waters discussed hail, lightning and elements to thunderstorms.

In this week's episode of Weather University, Matt and Jacqueline shared some insight on the formation of hail and what causes it. In addition, the duo also discussed the elements of lightning and shared valuable safety tips.

They also provided background knowledge on how lightning is measured, explaining the various methods used to track its intensity, frequency and location.
