What’s open in Central Virginia this Memorial Day?

RICHMOND Va. (WRIC) -- As memorial day approaches, many businesses will be closing up shop to honor those who have fallen during battle.

To help alleviate the stress of navigating what's open and what's closed, 8News has compiled a short list of businesses that will remain open, those that will close and those who have adjusted their hours.

Federal Government buildings:

Federal government buildings or offices such as the post office, courts and schools will be closed on Memorial Day.

Banks:

U.S. stock markets and banks will be closed Monday 5/26.

Delivery Services

Delivery services such as FedEx and UPS will not be available Monday, however special services such as USPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical will be available on Monday for time sensitive items.

Retailers:

Costco will be closed this Memorial Day Monday, however BJ's Wholesale club, Publix and Sam's Club will be open Monday--hours may vary. Other retailers such as:

  • Walmart
  • Kroger & its affiliated stores
  • Trader Joe's
  • Wholefoods
  • Macy's
  • TJ Maxx, Marshall's, HomeGoods
  • Home Depot
  • Lowe's
  • Best Buy
  • Aldi: Selects

Will be open--the hours may vary.

Travel:

According to AAA they project that 45.1 million Americans will travel domestically this Memorial Day weekend which is an increase of 1.4 million travelers last year setting a new Memorial Day record.
