When will tree pollen season end in Virginia?

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Tree pollen season will be ending soon, however, Virginians can expect other types of pollen to be present in the air throughout the upcoming months.

According to StormTracker8 Chief Meteorologist Matt DiNardo, tree pollen -- which is often seen covering vehicles and creating "rivers of green" after it rains -- will end within the next week or so from Monday, April 28.

DiNardo said grass pollen has already begun as of Monday, and will continue into mid-June.

"Then we're generally quiet until Ragweed, which is the weed pollen that hits us pretty bad, and begins in mid-August and stays until the first killing frost," DiNardo said.

Both Ragweed and grass pollen typically do not coat vehicles, as grass pollen is mostly stirred up when people cut their lawns, and Ragweed pollen floats in the air.

During the summer, when temperatures feel hot and humid, mold pollen can also run high, but DiNardo said that's not something that is usually tracked so well.
