Woman found dead with gunshot wound inside home in Richmond’s Southside during welfare check

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- While responding to a home in Richmond's Southside for a welfare check Tuesday morning, police found a woman inside with a gunshot wound, who was then pronounced dead.

At 7:41 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the 1600 block of Rosecrest Avenue for a welfare check.

When officers arrived, they found a woman inside the home who was lying down and unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. Police said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, according to officials. Her death is being investigated by police as a homicide.
