King William launches new K-9 program to enhance law enforcement

KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The King William County Sheriff's Office launched a new K-9 program with the first patrol K-9 on Friday to enhance law enforcement, according to officials.

The sheriff's office announced the launch of the K-9 program on Friday, March 20, marking what officials describe as "a significant step forward in enhancing public safety and law enforcement capabilities throughout the county."

The program's first patrol K-9, Aja, and her handler, Deputy M. Cox, have completed extensive training and will reportedly assist in a variety of law enforcement operations, including tracking and narcotics detection, per a release.

“The launch of our K9 program represents our continued commitment to public safety and innovation in law enforcement,” said Deputy M.R. Douglas, Public Information Officer, in the press release. “K9 Aja and Deputy Cox will be a tremendous asset to our agency and the community we serve.”

The sheriff’s office said they are excited about making a positive impact with this program and ask the community to welcome Aja to her new role.
