Woman hit, killed by truck while walking with friend in Nottoway

NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 38-year-old Blackstone woman is dead after she was hit by a truck on Route 46 in Nottoway County on Saturday. At about 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, troopers with Virginia State Police were called to Route 46 near Mill Road for report of a crash involving a pedestrian. According to state police, an unidentified 45-year-old Nottoway man was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 on the southbound side of Route 46 when he hit 38-year-old Kimberly Dawn Stevens of Blackstone. She and another woman, 67-year-old Thersa Lynn Smigiel of Blackstone, were walking southbound on Route 46 at the time of the crash. According to state police, Stevens was on the left side of the white line. Stevens was taken by MedFlight to an area hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries. Smigiel was not hit by the truck but did receive minor injuries. She was not taken to a hospital. Three juveniles hospitalized after car crash in Hanover County According to state police, the driver said he was unable to see Stevens due to the headlights of an oncoming vehicle on the northbound side. "No fault on the part of the driver was found and alcohol was not a factor in the incident," state police said. Virginia State Police continues to investigate.
