YMCA of Greater Richmond unveils upgraded facility after renovation

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield County officials and community members celebrated the grand reopening of the Chester Family YMCA on Thursday afternoon.

YMCA officials, county leaders and residents gathered on Thursday, March 19, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil major upgrades to the facility after renovation earlier this year.

President and CEO Jody Alexander of YMCA of Greater Richmond said the expansion represented an investment in the almost 50-year-old facility and the local community.

"The YMCA is one of those places that bring people together," Alexander said. "We have served generations, and we're about to turn the page and modernize a building to create even more memories [and] experiences that will take us into hopefully another 100 years or another 50 years with this building."

The newly renovated facility now includes a new 4,230-square-foot wellness center, an expanded child watch space, flexible multipurpose and group exercise studios and a universal locker room. The center said the renovation and expansion would help it serve more community members and ensure the facility remains a hub for community connection.

"The building is really important, but it's what happens inside the building ... There's no place like this place," Alexander said. "This is your place to build community."
