13-year-old boy remains in critical condition after Henrico crash involving motorcycle

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 13-year-old boy remains in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle while riding an electric motorcycle in Henrico County.

According to the Henrico County Police Division, on Tuesday, May 20, at around 8:57 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Wyndham Park and Dominion Club drives for report of a crash.

When they arrived, officers found a 13-year-old boy down in the roadway.

The teenager had been riding an electric motorcycle north on Wyndham Park Drive when he attempted to turn onto Glenshaw Drive and collided with a Lexus RX, according to police.

The driver of the RX remained at the scene. Bystanders in the area helped the teenager until authorities arrived. He was then taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said dark clothing, a lack of lights or reflective equipment on the motorcycle and dark roadways appear to be contributing factors in the crash -- however, the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident happened in front of The Carriage Homes at Wyndham Apartments. One resident, who lives just steps away from the crash scene, said she saw the active police presence.

"I'm so, so sorry about that young man that got hurt -- but, I mean, I know that's a kind of a dangerous intersection," said Michele Jones of Henrico County.

Jones said her nephew told her about the incident and they both went to investigate.

"We walked out to the corner there and I saw all of this ... and, by that time, it was just full of police cars and everything," Jones said. "People have to be a little bit more cautious at night, but I guess you weren't thinking that a kid would be out at that hour of the night riding their bike."

8News reached out to police on Friday, May 23 for updates on the investigation and the teenager's condition.

According to authorities, he remains in critical condition and there are no updates in the investigation.
