15-year-old girl dead after pickup truck crashes into power pole in Goochland County

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 15-year-old girl is dead after a pickup truck crashed into a power pole in Goochland County on Sunday.

Virginia State Police is investigating a deadly crash that occurred at around 8:44 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16 in the 2400 block of Hadensville Fife Road in Goochland County. 

According to state police, a 17-year-old was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and traveling southbound on Haydensville Fife Road when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road before hitting a power pole.

Both the 17-year-old driver and passenger -- a 15-year-old girl who was reportedly sitting in the backseat of the vehicle on the driver's side -- were taken to the hospital where the girl later died due to her injuries.

According to state police, the 15-year-old girl was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
