19-year-old man charged in connection to Caroline County shooting

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting into a vehicle after a verbal altercation in Caroline County.

At around noon on Tuesday, March 11, deputies with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting on Elm Street, just outside of the town of Bowling Green.

According to a post on X by the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, the citizen who reported the shooting heard multiple gunshots, screaming and saw several people gathered around a vehicle.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a car with what appeared to be a gunshot to its windshield.

A couple inside of the vehicle were reported unharmed. According to officials, the couple reported that they were visiting a residence on Elm Street when there was a verbal altercation with an individual before they were shot at.

According to the sheriff's office, law enforcement approached the residence in question, where the alleged suspect, identified as 19-year-old Ty’Jon Freeman of Bowling Green, was seen leaving the area shortly after the alleged shooting.

Following a search, deputies reportedly found Freeman walking along Sara Street and arrested him without incident. The vehicle was taken to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office for forensics examination.

According to officials, Freeman has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted malicious wounding
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Shooting into an occupied vehicle

The sheriff's office said Freeman is currently being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.
