20-year-old arrested after crashing stolen vehicle into Chesterfield home, causing gas leak

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 20-year-old was taken into custody after crashing a stolen vehicle into a Chesterfield County home, causing significant damage and prompting a gas leak evacuation, officials said.

At about 10:40 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23 on Midlothian Turnpike, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department spotted and attempted to stop a vehicle that had been stolen from the city of Richmond.

Officers activated the emergency lights and sirens on their police vehicles, and the driver of the stolen vehicle sped away twice, according to police.

According to police, officers later stopped the pursuit twice. A short time afterward, they located the suspect vehicle in the area of Pocoshock Boulevard and again in the 7600 block of Sandler Drive.

Police said the driver crashed the suspect vehicle into a home, causing significant damage. Chesterfield Fire and EMS said this caused a gas leak that required evacuation.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Isaac J. Ellison, who is experiencing homelessness, ran away from the scene on foot but was taken into custody nearby.

Police said there were no reported injuries, though Ellison was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later taken to jail.

He was charged with two counts of felony eluding police, misdemeanor eluding police, grand larceny and felony hit and run, according to police.
