21-year-old man dies after dirt bike crashes into tree in Hanover County

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 21-year-old man has died after his dirt bike crashed into a tree in Hanover County on Monday.
At around 5:40 p.m. on Monday, July 7, deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office responded to the 18000 block of Mountain Road in the Montpelier area for the report of a single-vehicle crash that occurred on private property.
According to officials, a preliminary investigation revealed that a dirt bike was heading west on a trail located on the victim's property.
While driving up an incline, the dirt bike appeared to have traveled off the left side of the trail and hit a tree.
The rider, identified as 21-year-old Taylor Seay, of Montpelier, was thrown from the bike and sustained "significant internal injuries." Officials said Seay appeared to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
According to the sheriff's office, when EMS arrived on scene, they took over life-saving measures from authorities who were already responding. However, despite these efforts, Seay was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators continue to gather information to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Taylor Seay during this difficult time," the sheriff's office said in a release.
