240-bed tower coming to VCU Health medical center campus in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 240-bed tower is coming to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health's medical center campus in downtown Richmond, according to a spokesperson.
Danielle Pierce, the director of public relations at VCU Health, confirmed the new bed tower, but per VCU Health leaders, it will convert double-occupancy rooms into single-occupancy. They are yet to determine its size, cost or set a timeline for completion.
In June, health officials submitted a request for proposal (RFP) for a project management firm -- a "key step in [their] strategic planning process for the new inpatient tower," per Pierce.
The tower will reportedly expand access to the high-acuity, specialized care that only VCU Health can provide.
Pierce emphasized that this approach aims to expand healthcare access to Virginians.
"While we are still in the early planning phase, this effort reflects our broader commitment to increasing access and better serving the people of the commonwealth through thoughtful, long-term investment in the health of our communities," Pierce said.
