26-year-old woman injured after shooting in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A 26-year-old woman is injured after police said she was shot in Petersburg Tuesday evening. At 6:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, officers with the Petersburg Bureau of Police were called to the 700 block of Independence Avenue for the report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old woman with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital. According to police, an investigation was conducted and 43-year-old Latoya Jones was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Police said Jones is being held without bond pending her appearance in court.
