32-year-old Midlothian motorcyclist killed in three-vehicle crash on I-64 Eastbound in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WRIC) -- A Midlothian motorcyclist was killed in a three vehicle crash on Interstate 64 Eastbound in Hampton.
On June 22, at 2:04 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a deadly three vehicle crash, involving a motorcycle, on I-64 east at Settlers Landing Road in Hampton.
According to the preliminary investigation from state police, it was determined that both of the drivers of a 2022 Nissan Murano, and the 2024 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, were stopped in the left lane due to traffic.
While both the Nissan and the Suzuki motorcycle were stopped, a 2000 Ford Excursion driven by Dionicio Moreno of Hampton failed to stop and struck the Suzuki from behind, ejecting the driver and running over the motorcyclist.
State police identified the motorcyclist as 32-year-old Christopher Matthew Dawson of Midlothian. He was taken to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, where he died from life-threatening injuries.
Moreno was charged with reckless driving. Authorities said speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in this crash. The Commonwealth Attorney's Office will consult all further charges.
