35-year-old killed in Brunswick County crash

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 35-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Boydton Plank Road this weekend.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), at 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 troopers investigated a single-vehicle crash in the 16000 block of Boydton Plank Road (Route 1) in Warfield.
The initial investigation indicates that 43-year-old John Robert Daniel was driving a Honda Civic southbound on Boydton Plank Road when he lost control, crossed all lanes of travel and hit a tree after running off the road.

Authorities said that the impact of the crash resulted in the death of 35-year-old Richard Duane Bennett II, who was a passenger in the front seat.
Daniel was taken to a Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) hospital with injuries that are considered non-life-threatening.
At the time of the crash, both men were not wearing seatbelts and it has been determined that alcohol was a contributing factor, according to state police.
